Drugs and alcohol training for Toxicologists

(with written examinations and practical workshops)

This course is split into 5 modules starting with foundation courses about common drugs of abuse and alcohol, their general effects, metabolism and interpretation of findings in general terms. These first two modules form the basic training required prior to becoming a court-going Toxicology Expert Witness. There is a separate module specifically for drugs and driving to give more background preparation prior to taking on that more bespoke evidential type. A shorter module is available for training personnel prior to them taking on Drug-facilitated Sexual Assault cases which can be more complex in nature and require knowledge of the effects and metabolism of a wider range of drugs.

The final module is to prepare personnel for dealing with complex poisoning cases. Most of these cases are bespoke in nature but a consistent approach is useful to ensure best evidential value is obtained.
